MCMLXXXVI

In nineteen hundred eighty-six, a year of great delight,
We danced to pop and synthwave beats beneath the neon light.
Shoulder pads and parachute pants were really quite the rage,
And every cool cassette we had was stacked upon the stage.

The mullets flowed in glory, and arcades were our den,
We’d place our quarters down and say, “I’ll beat you once again.”
From Top Gun’s skies to Aliens’ fright, our screens would gleam and glow,
As we journeyed to the future with the friends we used to know.

We witnessed Halley’s Comet blaze a trail across the sky,
While watching Michael Jordan in his very first Bulls’ fly.
Pixar began its early stride with RenderMan in hand,
And somewhere in Japan a game named Zelda took the land.

“Oh, what a year!” we’d often cheer and revel in the vibe,
With Rubik’s cubes and boombox tunes, in optimism we would thrive.
For ’86, you brought us joy, and memories so grand,
In the dance of life, your beat will always lead our flourishing band.
